U.S. stock index futures edged higher in Tuesday's premarket session, signaling that the market may extend Monday's tech-led rebound as investors braced for a heavy slate of blue-chip earnings and fresh labor-market data. S&P 500 futures were modestly higher early Tuesday, ahead of expected earnings from Caterpillar Inc. and McDonald's Corp.

The tone follows a powerful reset on Wall Street to open the week. During Monday's regular session, the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite surged 2.13%, while the S&P 500 and Dow advanced 1.48% and 1.32%, respectively. Megacap technology stocks drove the gains, with Amazon soaring 4.6% to surpass a $3 trillion market capitalization for the first time. Other standout performers included Microsoft (4.9%), Nvidia (2.9%), Meta Platforms (6%), Alphabet (4.9%) and Tesla (3.5%). Sentiment was also lifted by a roughly a 5% drop in oil prices after President Donald Trump canceled planned strikes on Iran to revive negotiations, easing concerns over inflation.

Risk appetite just about held in overnight trade, even as crude oil resumed its climb. Gold was up modestly and bitcoin held a well-defined range. Bitcoin continues to display resilience in the face of geopolitical turmoil and macroeconomic headwinds, trading in a range around $63,000 to $64,000 after posting a gain of more than 7% in July.

MarketFramework's Positioning Edge tool shows profitable traders in the Nasdaq E-mini futures (NQ) are 52% long, while unprofitable traders are only 33% long. That means profitable traders are 19 percentage points more bullish than losing traders, resulting in an "Extreme Bullish Divergence."

As long as profitable traders maintain a larger long exposure than unprofitable traders, the positioning data favors:

  • buying dips rather than selling rallies,
  • continued upside momentum if supported by price action and macro catalysts.

A reversal would be signaled if unprofitable traders suddenly became the dominant long holders, as that often marks late-stage retail chasing.

US Stocks in Focus

Palantir Technologies (PLTR) shares jumped more than 17% in pre-market trading on upbeat Q2 results, with revenue of $1.94 billion and EPS of 41 cents.

The premarket spotlight turns next to industrials and consumer bellwethers. Caterpillar (CAT) plans to release its second-quarter 2026 financial results before the market opens. The consensus Estimate for CAT's second-quarter 2026 earnings has moved up about 1.1% over the past 60 days to $6.20 per share, which implies 31% growth from the year-ago actual, while the consensus estimate for revenues is pegged at $19.2 billion, indicating nearly 16% year-over-year growth. Caterpillar stock could move 6.1% when the company releases its earnings report on Aug. 4 before the market opens, according to options data compiled by Bloomberg.

McDonald's Corp. and pharma giants Pfizer and Merck are also on the pre-open earnings tape. Pfizer's August 7 weekly 25 straddle is priced for a move of 4%, with a call-put ratio of 1.9 calls to 1 put into the expected release of quarterly results before the bell on August 4.

Key Technical Levels

The S&P 500 is knocking on record territory after Monday's advance. A close above the 7,600 handle on the S&P 500 has confirmed a breakout, with immediate support seen around Monday's open near 7,505.

In commodities, XAU/USD is expected to continue trading within the $4,007.83–$4,157.41 range, with the asset able to move in either direction.

Asian Markets

Asian equities failed to fully mirror Wall Street's optimism on Tuesday. Japan's Nikkei 225 ended up 0.32% at 63,957.53. South Korea's Kospi advanced 1.62%, recovering from Monday's steep sell-off, and Shanghai's SSE Composite index ended in the green with a gain of 0.33%. On the other hand, Hong Kong's Hang Seng declined 0.60%.

Europe Early Trend

European stocks opened on firmer footing, extending Monday's rebound as the recent pullback in energy prices supported cyclical. Traders will monitor merger chatter around AstraZeneca, which tumbled more than 6% Monday following reports that it was in merger talks with Bristol Myers Squibb on a potential $400 billion deal.

The U.S. data slate is light but market-sensitive, with the trade deficit and job openings likely to shape rate expectations ahead of Friday's payrolls print.
