BEST KNOWN FOR

Trader Bite, and the Volume Profile generation

Long before "order flow" was a YouTube genre, FT71 was teaching retail traders to read the market as an auction. His 2012 Volume Profile webinars for Futures.io are still the reference many professionals cite. Then there is "Trader Bite", the brief, live, daily pre-market plan he first ran for his own prop traders in 2003 and took public in 2012. It reached its 2,657th episode in April 2024 and its 2,750th in March 2026. Around it he built Convergent Trading, a trader-development community with an Accelerator programme, and EdgeClear, the CFTC-regulated, NFA-registered futures broker he founded and runs as chief executive. Feedspot ranks the channel fifteenth among futures YouTubers for 2026, though the peers who credit him as a pioneer are the better measure.

IN FT71'S WORDS

“Your job is to align with the market. It is not to be a mind-reader, a forecaster of economies, an analyst.”

X, September 2020 (the "holy grail" thread)

“NONE of this matters if we aren’t here tomorrow because we blew up today or ran out of money. So it is a cliché, but it is the truth: RISK COMES FIRST.”

X, September 2020

“I’m not as good as my last trade. I’m as good as MY BEST EXECUTION of my edge. Period.”

Who is FuturesTrader71?

Morad Askar, known as FuturesTrader71 since he adopted the alias on a trading forum in 2005, is one of the few retail-facing educators who was a professional before the internet made the word fashionable. A civil engineer by training, he left construction project management around 2000 to scalp NASDAQ stocks at high volume. Then he heard about seats at the Chicago Board of Trade, drove up from Boca Raton over a weekend and, as he tells it, was knocking on doors by Monday morning. He has traded futures from Chicago ever since, holds the Eurex Licensed Trader designation and is a CME Group member.

From 2003 to 2010 he ran his own proprietary trading firm, hiring and training futures traders (29 of them passed through his group, by his count) in the era before high-frequency trading changed the scalper’s game. He adapted: from hundreds of round turns a day to what he calls "waiting for the market to come to me, like at a train station," reading the auction through Volume Profile and order flow. In 2009 he joined Twitter "to give back to the community." A decade and a half of daily posts later, he has 60,000 followers and one of the most quoted threads in futures trading, the 2020 "holy grail" thread whose refrain is "risk comes first."

The teaching followed. His 2012 Volume Profile webinars for Futures.io introduced the method to a generation of retail traders. The same year Trader Bite went public: a short, live, pre-market read of the session ahead, delivered on trading days for more than a decade. The series reached episode 2,657 in April 2024, returned in June 2025, and passed 2,750 in March 2026. A 15-year collaboration with Linn Software produced the Flexlevels, Homework RTX and StalkZone tools that carry his levels into Investor/RT. Bookmap, Trading Technologies and Sierra Chart users know him through webinars and interviews.

In 2017 he co-founded Convergent Trading with James Kessick, a community built around "Trade Right": the habits of risk, sizing and emotional control he watched decide who survived on his desk. It runs a daily squawk, levels and a Discord, and since 2023 a five-week Accelerator Programme. Then he built the plumbing: EdgeClear, a Chicago introducing broker regulated by the CFTC and registered with the NFA, which he founded and runs as chief executive. In 2026 it added single-stock futures and the new E-nano equity index contracts.

What his peers keep coming back to is temperament. Bookmap titled its long interview with him "A Tale of a Calm Mastermind". His own line is that a trader is not as good as his last trade but "as good as my best execution of my edge." For the many futures traders who learned Volume Profile from a 2012 recording, FT71 is the original, still trading, still teaching, still in Chicago.

How FT71 trades

Read the auction before you trade it

FT71’s method treats the market as an auction and Volume Profile as its record: where volume clustered, where it thinned, where value was accepted and where it was rejected. From that map he identifies the levels that matter (StalkZones, in his tooling) and waits for price to come to them rather than chasing it. Order flow, read on the ladder and on Bookmap’s heatmap, is confirmation at the level, not a signal in itself.

His preferred markets are the E-mini S&P 500, the E-mini Nasdaq-100 and WTI crude, with experience across gold, Treasury notes, the DAX, Euro Stoxx, the Bund and currency futures. He has recommended micro index contracts to beginners since 2012, long before they were fashionable. His morning routine, the "Opening Swing" prep and the Trader Bite plan, sets the day’s context before the open.

Trade Right: risk first, execution over outcome

The Convergent framework he calls Trade Right is about the trader more than the trade. It rests on position sizing scaled to a defined risk unit, an R-Factor that measures performance per unit of risk, and journaling that separates good execution from good luck. He championed the related "Netto Number" at TradersEXPO in 2017. "NONE of this matters if we aren’t here tomorrow," runs the thread. "Risk comes first."

He has also argued for years that trading in isolation is the hardest way to do it, which is the reason the community exists. As with every trader profiled here, the approach is described from his own material and is not a recommendation; futures trading involves substantial risk of loss.
