Prop-firm rules, explained by a trader who trades them

Jesse turns each new prop-firm rulebook into a plain-English video, and those explainers draw his biggest audiences. He backs them with his own trading: copy-traded account stacks across several firms, monthly payout reviews that count the costs, and occasional live Nasdaq sessions. Underneath it all sits a mechanical, indicator-free method he calls his Simple Support & Resistance Strategy.

Who is Trading With JesseW?

Jesse Acosta reads the fine print so other traders do not have to. When a futures prop firm rewrites its rules, he films a plain-English breakdown. Explainers on consistency rules, drawdowns and payout policies are his most-watched futures videos. He trades the same accounts he explains. His monthly reviews set evaluation fees, resets and losses beside the payouts. As he puts it, “gross payouts only tell part of the story.” He films the misses too. One video walks through how he failed a Topstep evaluation despite a six-figure realized profit, then passed a fresh one while making far less. He turned both into a lesson on execution and risk.

The hustle started early. As a grade-schooler he baked rubber bugs in a toy oven he got for Christmas and sold them to classmates on the school bus, saving for fishing gear. In high school he worked at a pet shop, set up home aquariums on the side and calculated how many eBay sales it would take to quit. He has been self-employed since the mid-2000s. The W in JesseW is his middle initial, taken from his father’s first name. His father taught him to give everything his max effort, “so if I fell short I still fell in greatness.”

Trading began as one more side hustle. He opened his YouTube channel, then called Hustle With JesseW, in November 2018 to show viewers they did not have to settle for a 9-to-5 paycheck. Stock trading soon took over. He built the audience, he says, by “simply putting up a webcam on my desk and clicking record,” filming daily recaps of small-cap stock and options trades. E-mini futures joined the recaps in February 2020. In January 2023 the channel turned to futures prop-firm evaluations. He took them on camera, starting with a 50K account and moving on to several 25K and 150K accounts. By June 2024 the channel carried its current name.

His teaching home is The Day Trader Chatroom, which he co-founded with a friend he met about twenty years ago while working part-time at a pet store. It was built for “the real everyday day trader,” with a free beginner course and paid courses on day trading, swing trading, options, short selling and futures. Students can book one-to-one mentoring, and about 1,800 members meet in the free Discord, The DTC. On YouTube he posts two or three long videos a week: rule breakdowns, payout reviews and experiments such as passing five Lucid evaluations after a coin-flip test went wrong. In September 2026 he sat down with Take Profit Trader chief executive James Sixsmith, and in October he was a featured speaker at the Wealth365 Summit.

In April 2026 he shared on X that trading had paid off the family home. He waved off Lambos and private jets and spoke instead of “quiet freedom and peace” for his wife and kid. His X bio begins “Entrepreneur, Day Trader, Father, Husband, Christ Follower, Fisherman,” and the reward he describes is a weekday on the water with his family. For the prop traders who follow him, Jesse is a steady, practical voice. He tests the rules with his own money, shows the costs as well as the payouts, and keeps reminding newcomers that risk management is what changed everything for him.

How Jesse trades

Mechanical support and resistance on NQ

Jesse trades Nasdaq-100 futures intraday and streams some sessions live at the 9:30 am Eastern open or in the overnight Globex session. His method is what he calls his Simple Support & Resistance Strategy. He marks the key price-action levels, watches the raw momentum into them and executes by rule, with no indicators on the chart. In a June 2026 series he made the case for it the hard way. He tried to pass five Lucid evaluations on a coin flip (“Heads I buy, tails I short”), then switched to the strategy and passed all five.

Part two, “My No-Indicator Blueprint for Lucid Trading,” lays out his entry, exit and risk parameters. It also shows the position sizing he used to stay within the firm’s 50% evaluation consistency check. The idea runs back to his stock-trading years, when support and resistance, VWAP and the 9 EMA anchored his lessons. His summary of what an evaluation needs is short: “a systematic edge and the discipline to execute it.”

One plan, many accounts

He scales through accounts rather than position size, running stacks of evaluation and funded accounts at several firms at once, sometimes twenty at a single firm. Tradovate Group Trading mirrors a lead account across the rest. He documents that setup step by step, from lead and follower accounts to contract ratios. A copier, he warns, “only works if your strategy and execution are mechanical.”

Withdrawals follow a plan too. He usually requests the maximum available payout while leaving the required minimum buffer. These days he judges each month by net profit and efficiency rather than gross payouts. His advice to newer traders rarely changes: manage risk, stay consistent and stay in the game long enough for it to click. As with every trader profiled here, the approach is described from his own material and is not a recommendation; futures trading involves substantial risk of loss.

See how the wider prop-trading field is positioned in NQ while you study a method like this: MarketFramework's Positioning Edge shows live long/short splits across ES, NQ, MES and MNQ from real evaluation and funded accounts, and Prop Backtest scores strategies against prop-firm rules.
