IN JOSE'S WORDS

“Trading is a real skill. It takes time, discipline, patience, experience. Nobody becomes consistently profitable overnight.”

“I can show you the strategy, but what I can’t show you is experience.”

YouTube, May 2026 (Day 4: Strategies)

“The goal wasn’t to create another signal indicator. The goal was to automate the charting process I already use so I can focus on execution instead of drawing levels manually.”

Who is JoseTradesNQ?

JoseTradesNQ, who goes by Jose, has built his trading around one idea: a plan simple enough to repeat every morning. He trades a single setup on Nasdaq futures, usually takes one trade a day and tends to be done by 10:30 am Eastern. "Trading should not be complicated," he tells viewers at the start of his most-watched video. The About page of his website opens with a shorter version: "Process over performance theater."

He is candid about how he got here. He trades prop-firm evaluation and funded accounts rather than his own capital, and he counts himself among the many traders who have lost accounts along the way. What changed was sticking with one model. By May 2026 he had traded the 8 am opening range for "maybe a year or so," and he credits that consistency with teaching him how the setup behaves. His JoseTradesNQ name has been on TradingView since April 2024, and the JoseTradesNQ Discord followed in April 2025. Almost exactly a year later, on 27 April 2026, he began streaming the New York open on YouTube.

The method itself fits in a few lines. On the 15-minute chart he boxes the 8:00 am Eastern candle from wick to wick and draws its midline. On the 5-minute chart he adds the previous Asia, London and New York session highs and lows, keeping even the ones price has already tested. Nothing happens before the 9:30 open. Once a 5-minute candle closes firmly outside the box, he waits for price to pull back to the midline and enters in the direction of the break. His stop is about 25 points, and his first target is about 50 points or the next session level. If the 8 am range is wider than 55 points, his rule is to sit the day out in cash.

Everything around the setup is built to make that routine easier to follow. In June 2026 he turned his morning chart work into a free TradingView indicator, the JTNQ 8 AM Model. It marks the range, its midline and the prior session levels, and flags ranges too wide to trade. "The goal wasn’t to create another signal indicator," he wrote when he released it. His free Discord, past 550 members in October 2026, has channels for trade recaps, lessons, passed evaluations and payouts, plus a gym chat. His next project is TradeGuardian, a browser extension built to refuse orders placed outside a trader’s own schedule, ticker list or size limit. Early-access sign-ups are open.

The schedule is the other constant. His site lists a live session every weekday at 9:20 am Eastern, with trading from 9:30 to 10:30. His YouTube archive holds 66 of those morning sessions between 27 April and 16 October 2026, most of them under an hour. In May he added a five-part beginner course, from "What Is Trading?" to how prop firms work. He has also given evaluation accounts away through live draws and community game nights, including a Fortnite tournament in June. Most of his community gathers on Discord, while the YouTube channel, at 113 subscribers in October 2026, is just getting started. What he already offers is a complete loop: a plan set before the open, executed live and recapped, in his site’s words, "win or loss." For a newer trader, watching that loop every morning is the lesson.

How Jose trades

The 8 am range and the 9:30 retest

Jose’s model starts before the cash session. On the 15-minute NQ chart he marks the full 8:00 am Eastern candle, extends the box to the right and adds a midline. He then drops to the 5-minute chart and marks the previous Asia, London and New York session highs and lows. He keeps levels that price has already tapped, a habit he calls "just my style." His JTNQ 8 AM Model indicator now draws all of it automatically, including a warning when the range is oversized.

He takes no trades before 9:30, when volume arrives with the stock market open. What he wants first is a strong 5-minute close outside the range, not a candle that barely pokes through. Then he waits for a pullback to the midline, or to a session level if one sits close by. The entry comes when the opening candle, or sometimes the 9:40 candle, wicks into that level and turns. The stop is about 25 points, and the target is either about 50 points, sized to prop-firm consistency rules, or the next session high or low. When price is far from the box, a second model trades rejections at those prior session levels.

One trade, one hour, written rules

His rules are as fixed as the setup. He takes one trade a day, win or lose, and then closes the charts. His window runs from 9:30 to about 10:30 Eastern, because volume fades toward late morning. He risks about half of what he aims to make and holds for more only when a level he trusts is within reach. If the setup never comes, he does not force one. "Patience pays," he tells beginners, and he warns them against switching strategies after a losing day or two.

He trades Nasdaq-100 futures, primarily NQ and MNQ, through prop-firm evaluation and funded accounts, and charts on TradingView. He tells beginners to take their time with evaluations and to consider trading their own capital only after consistent prop-firm payouts. TradeGuardian puts his rules-first approach into software, holding a trader to the schedule, symbols and size they set in advance. As with every trader profiled here, the approach is described from his own material and is not a recommendation; futures trading involves substantial risk of loss.
